Home to about 6,200 Romanian Byzatine Catholics, the Romanian Catholic Diocese (that's the official, civil name) or the Eparchy of "St. George" in Canton (that's the canonical name) represents the Romanian Byzantine Catholic Church (as known as "greek-catolic") in all the U.S.A. and Canada.
[short history till then...] On December 4, 1982 Pope John Paul II established the Apostolic Exarchate for Romanian Byzantine Catholics (real name), under the leadership of Most Rev. Vasile Louis Pușcaș.
On March 26, 1987 Pope John Paul II elevated the Apostolic Exarchate for Romanian Byzatine Church erecting Dioecesis/Eparchia Sancti Georgii Martyris Romenorum, the Romanian Catholic Diocese / Eparchy of St. George in Canton:
Under the leadership of Most Rev. John Michael Botean since March 29, 1996, on April 23, 2013 the Holy See has extended the jurisdiction of the Romanian Catholic Diocese/Eparchy over all the Romanian Byzatine Catholics Greek-Catholics residing in Canada and became a member of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB).
There are 20 communities: 11 parishes, 7 missions and 2 monasteries (one for men, one for women), within the diocese/eparchy. The Cathedral of St. George the Martyr is located in Canton, Ohio.
